/ - Who is a Qualified Dermatologist?
- MBBS — Basic medical degree (5.5 years including internship).
- Must be from a recognized medical college and registered with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or a state medical council.
- Postgraduate Qualification in Dermatology
After MBBS, a doctor must complete 3 years of specialized training through one of the following:- MD (Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy)
- DNB (Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy) — from the National Board of Examinations (NBE)
- DVD (Diploma in Dermatology, Venereology & Dermatology) — a 2-year diploma (less common now)
These degrees ensure training in:
- Clinical dermatology
- Dermatosurgery
- Cosmetic dermatology
- Venereology (sexually transmitted diseases)
- Leprosy
- Registration & Recognition
- Must be registered as a specialist with a State Medical Council or the National Medical Commission.
- Many are also members of IADVL, which verifies dermatologists with recognized qualifications.
